Jane E. Myers

[Dr. Myers passed away in 2015. The following biographical statement represents her work during her activity at UNC Greensboro.] Education: PhD, Counselor Education, University of Florida ; EdS, Counselor Education, University of Florida ; MRC, Rehabilitation Counseling, University of Florida ; BA, Psychology, University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Myers has been a faculty member at UNCG since 1990. Her professional interests include wellness for persons of all ages and cultural backgrounds, mid-life and aging issues, assessment, and counselor education. With her husband, Dr. Tom Sweeney, she co-authored and edited Counseling for Wellness: Theory, Research, and Practice (2005) published by the American Counseling Association. This book describes two counseling-based wellness models, assessment instruments, and over two decades of wellness research by multiple authors, including over 40 doctoral dissertations completed at institutions in the United States and internationally. Tangible suggestions for applying the wellness models in education, community services, and business and industry settings. Dr. Myers works with researchers internationally who share common interests in wellness. Most of this research uses the Indivisible Self Model of Wellness and the Five Factor Wellness Inventory (5F-Wel), which has been culturally adapted into multiple languages and cultures.
