Abstract: Major obstacles 10 educational effectiveness exist for many low-income students of color who attend urban public schools. Many obstacles appear to be correlated with low incidences of physical activity in children and adolescents. Three factors - immediate and continual success, a relevant curriculum, and trusting and caring relationships between students and teachers appear essential to catching and holding the attention and interest of urban adolescents, opening possibilities for regular participation in an educational physical education environment.
