Abstract: This thesis comprises two jazz compositions with a combined duration of 12 minutes. The document includes scores for each piece along with an exploration and analysis of musical techniques and influences. Emphasis is placed on the concept of dovetailing and a detailed examination of horn voicings, specifically focusing on the intervallic distances between notes. Notably, the discussion challenges the conventional placement of the melody above other instrumentation, proposing an alternative approach: that strategic spacing out of voicings to allow the melody to reside within the harmony contributes to a more intricate and sonically enriched musical experience.
