Abstract: Slides from a presentation given October 18, 2023, for the North Carolina Library Association (NCLA) Biennial Conference. From the creation of training materials, workflow documentation, and marketing content to the authorship of articles, presentations, and other scholarship, writing is an important component of many library positions. But the practice of writing is often solitary, which can leave writers feeling isolated when they encounter challenges, setbacks, and questions. How can libraries help create and facilitate community for writers within their organizations? This presentation shares information about two different writing group models that have been implemented at UNC Greensboro. These groups–one library-focused and one campus-based–offer opportunities for goal-setting and accountability, discussion of challenges and strategies for handling them, and chances to connect with other writers, among other benefits. Speakers will discuss the needs that led to the development of these groups, the challenges and lessons learned, and will encourage attendees to consider potential opportunities for incorporating writing support strategies in their own workplaces and communities.
