Abstract: The complete characterization of Steinitz rings requires a certain degree of sophistocation in fundamental concepts in algebra. In an effort to present this paper so that it is readable for anyone with a minimal background in algebra, certain concepts need to be defined and discussed. In order to preserve continuity later, we shall establish the necessary foundations initially and refer back to it as needed. This chapter will include definitions and theorems that are essential background for the study of right Steinitz rings. Proofs of theorems will be omitted when they are readily accessible in Joachim Lambek's Lectures on Rings and Modules [4] or when the proofs are well-known, but involve material that is not directly related to this study.
