Abstract: The purpose of this study was to gain information about the effectiveness of the developmental program at Forsyth Technical Community College (FTCC). Specifically, this study compared the academic success of students placed in developmental programs before entering a curriculum with the success of those curriculum students who did not require developmental courses. Academic success was measured by grade point average (GPA) at the end of four quarters in the curriculum. In addition, this study included a questionnaire designed to measure the students' perception of the developmental program, an analysis of demographic variables of developmental students, a comparison of entrance examination scores and grade point averages, and an analysis of attrition rates.
