Abstract: These poems seek to demonstrate the ways in which an individual becomes a conscious part of an historical context and cultural moment. The poems are arranged in three sections that chronologically depict the movement from individual, limited experience toward collective, shared experience and understanding. Ultimately, the work attempts to capture and come to terms with the excessive nostalgia and self-consciousness of 21st Century America in the voice of an honest, solitary speaker.
