Abstract: Patients with tracheostomies carry a rare but high risk for serious, life-threatening complications such as tube dislodgment. Because of this, it is imperative intensive care unit nurses can detect these complications and know how to treat them. An educational program using clinical scenarios and simulation training focused on tracheostomy tube dislodgment may increase nurses' self-competence and clinical performance in managing this patient population. A pre/post test intervention design was utilized. A 13 question Lickert-scale survey was administered before and after the educational program intervention. Findings found positive trends in the data to support the educational program.Tracheostomy tube dislodgment educational program does increase self-competence and clinical performance for ICU nurses.
