Abstract: Thrusts of the political and social movements for equality for people with disabilities in the work place and in the community are slowly being realized. Issues of equity, independence, and normalization have been brought to the forefront of social consciousness through legislation such as the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, advances in technological applications, and social awareness of all people. Although a lot of work remains to be done, people with disabilities are becoming more visible in work, community, and recreation environments.
