Abstract: This research paper aims to provide a quantifiable measurement of albedo and surface temperature of selected sites in the western part of Guilford County, NC, near the cities of Greensboro, High Point, and Kernersville, highlighting specific grey infrastructures (GREIs) for analysis and comparison. The purpose of this research paper is to provide evidence of which roofing technology or technique potentially contributes the least to the urban heat islands (UHIs) of this study area. Based on the finding of this study, many of the rooftop materials performed as expected. In all cases, there was a positive correlation between Greensboro temperature and all of the roofs in this case study. This study suggests that the GREIs represented do demonstrate cooling potential and monitoring GREIs will continue to help ascertain the effectiveness of future construction materials for low-slope roofs as an effective way to help reduce urban temperatures or mitigate the effects of UHIs.
