Abstract: This thesis consists of four short stories, the titles of which are as follows: "The Chain Letter," "Empty House," "The Meeting," and "Jokes." I have been unable, thus far, to establish any philosophical relationship between the stories contained herein. Each must be considered separately, and I believe no explanations are necessary outside of those which are clearly stated by the fiction. All of these stories were written during my period of graduate study at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and they are arranged in the order of completion.
