Abstract: This thesis consists of three short stories, the titles of which are: "Nothing Like It In The World," "Looking Up To The Dead," and "Who U R." These stories are about people who are pressed into becoming heroes or scapegoats, and who deal with the vastness, apparent chaos and infinite forces of the world in different ways. Sometimes they have confronted God, and usually the action is violent because these people are moved to respond out of terror. They are not thinking people and their actions emanate from the most visceral, primeval base of their intellect.
