Abstract: The purposes of the study were as follows: 1. To identify the items of furnishings acquired by families and to determine how the items were obtained, length of ownership and plans for replacement, renovation or additions during the next year. 2. To determine the association between the amount of home furnishings items acquired by families and four stages in the family life cycle: (1) the beginning family; (2) the expanding family; (3) the teenage or launching family; (4) the middle aged family. 3. To determine the extent to which certain factors are associated with the adequacy of furnishings for the dining, living, and sleeping areas of the house.
