Abstract: Married students are attending colleges and universities in continuously increasing numbers. This trend has been in existence for the past two decades, and the conditions which affected it appear to have been the following: First, The GI Bill of Rights, during World War II, made it possible for a veteran to support a wife and attend college et the same time. This government subsidy encouraged the practice of veterans' attending college after marriage, and non-veterans followed their example. Second, there was general population increase which changed the composition of the college population. There were greater numbers of married as well as single students attending colleges. The third condition tending toward an increased number of married college students was the fact that people were marrying at an earlier age than formerly.
