Abstract: The purpose of this investigation was to develop and validate a questionnaire designed to assess habitual physical activity of sixth-grade children. Two preliminary surveys involving 104 sixth-graders were used to determine the content and format of the questionnaire. A pilot study (n = 72) was also conducted to check the administrative ease and reliability of the instrument. Finally, a sample of 235 sixth-grade students completed the Physical Activity Questionnaire (PAQ), the AAHPERD Health-Related Physical Fitness Test, and the revised Children's Attitude toward Physical Activity Inventory (CATPA). Two validation techniques were used to investigate the construct validity of the PAQ, including convergent validity and the group differences method. Pearson Product-Moment correlations were used to determine convergent validity, examining the relationships between the PAQ and health-related fitness and attitude toward physical activity. Independent t-tests were used to determine group differences for high and low activity groups on health-related fitness and attitude toward physical activity.
