Abstract: It was the purpose of this study to investigate the qualifications of the mathematics instructors in the community colleges of North Carolina and to determine the content of the mathematics courses in the college transfer programs at these institutions. The increase of the number of students transferring from the community colleges to the senior institutions of North Carolina created the need for a study to be made of the mathematics departments of these two year institutions in the state. The criteria used in the analysis of the qualifications of the instructors and of the content of the courses were recommendations made by the Committee on the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics of the Mathematical Association of America and guidelines prepared by the Joint Committee on College Transfer Students of North Carolina.
