Abstract: Qualitative research provides lessons for the psychology of physical activity. Specifically, qualitative research highlights the social context, multiple truths and multiple paths to those truths. All methods are limited and all knowledge is incomplete. No one method can provide a complete understanding of complex, dynamic physical activity behaviour. Incorporating those lessons can broaden our vision to move beyond the qualitative–quantitative dichotomy and value all forms of scholarship in an engaged social psychology of physical activity.
