Lorraine Shackelford
Lorraine Shackelford has been a member of the Performance Faculty and Director of Theatre Education in the Department of Theatre at UNCG for sixteen years. She obtained her Masters of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) degree in Acting from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1987 and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Drama and Speech with a minor in dance from East Carolina University in 1975. In undergraduate school, Lorraine had the privilege of studying ballet and jazz with Mavis Ray, a respected choreographer, performer, and teacher who served as assistant choreographer to Agnes de Mille and Joe Layton for many years.
Lorraine began her lifelong careers in theatre and education as a K-12 Theatre Arts teacher, teaching nine years in North Carolina and Virginia public schools, while pursuing her passion for theatre in the evenings.
