Andreas Lixl

I was born in Salzburg, Austria in 1951. During my sophomore year at the University of Vienna, I transferred to the University of Wisconsin, where I completed BS and BA degrees in Mathematics and German. Following my graduation, I briefly taught in secondary schools, and then enrolled in graduate studies programs at UW-Madison, where I received a MA and Ph.D. in modern German Literature and Culture in 1984. My first teaching position as Assistant Professor at Wabash College, Indiana, where I taught a broad range of German Studies and liberal arts courses. In 1987, I moved to The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where I received tenure and was promoted to full professor in 1996. Since 1999, I have held an administrative assignment as Head of the Department of German, Russian, and Japanese Studies (GAR). I am the proud father of two boys, Aaron (1991) and Max (1993), who taught me much about the essence of life, love, and learning.
