Abstract: In spring 2013 the University Libraries, Information Technology Services and the Office of Research and Economic Development conducted a survey to determine faculty needs regarding storing and sharing data, assistance needed with managing and storing data and their priorities for these services. The impetus for this survey was two-fold. First, many funding agencies require data management plans (DMP) as part of their requirements. In addition, UNCG adopted a policy in 2012, “Access to and Retention of Research Data,” that outlines the rights and responsibilities of investigators and the institution in the use, retention, and maintenance of data produced during the research process.
