Abstract: The purpose of this work is to explore the possibilities of advanced contrapuntal techniques in music. Bipolarity is a composition consisting of two complete, self-contained works that were also designed to be performed simultaneously. The fact that these individual pieces are performed at the same time does not necessarily indicate that they will function in dissonance. There are many moments of both consonance and dissonance with respect to harmony, rhythm, and motive within this work. The purpose of Bipolarity is to demonstrate that the two pieces can function conjointly while retaining their own identity.
