Abstract: The rapid emergence of robotic-assisted surgery has provided patients with an abundance of benefits including reduced postoperative pain, faster recovery time, reduced hospital stays, and improved cosmetic outcomes. However, robotic-assisted surgery places the patient at a higher risk for intraoperative corneal abrasions. Anesthesia providers are the first line of defense in protecting the patient against ocular injury in the perioperative setting. Therefore, it is important for anesthesia providers to become aware of the etiologies surrounding this increased incidence, as well as the optimal methods of ocular protection to minimize corneal abrasions in robotic assisted surgeries.
