Abstract: Science parks were first established in the United States in the 1950s. They have been widely touted as a potentially important source of technological spillovers and economic growth—regional economic growth in particular (Audretsch, 2001). Given the complexity of the relationships that arise from the creation of these institutions and their considerable heterogeneity, it is perhaps not surprising that there is no generally accepted definition of a science park. The Association of University Related Research Parks (AURRP) has set forth one definition.
