Abstract: Generally, the assumption is that it is useful to apprehend where a nation has come from, historically, in order to successfully map out its future plans. Thus this article, among other things, addresses the complex process of democratization in Nigerian politics since 1985. It examines endeavors by civil society to reinstitute democratic governance in the country following the abortion of the Third Republic on June 12, 1993, and concludes with a possible strategy for the sustainment of democracy in the forthcoming republic.
