Abstract: The University Libraries at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro partnered with Information Technology (ITS) and the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED) to develop a needs assessment survey. This “UNCG Faculty Research Data Support Needs Survey” was administered to all faculty members in spring 2013 and included questions on the format(s) of their research data, how they store and backup data, how they share/disseminate data, data management plans, and their priorities for support. This paper will discuss the background literature, the survey methodology, how the results were used to identify priorities, steps taken to address priorities, and the benefits of cross-campus collaboration in an assessment project.
