Abstract: Many dance educators and researchers are concerned about issues regarding the health and wellness of dance students. In recent years, many teachers and scholars have investigated somatic practices, kinesiological information, and diverse approaches to health and wellness. A number of safety approaches and kinesiologically-focused programs have made their way into higher education curricula and courses (see Eddy, 2002; Fortin, 1993, 1995; 2002; Green, 1996, 2002-a, 2002-b for examples). However, very little is written on the social and political effects of such concepts and pedagogies (see Green, 1999, 2002-3 for one example).
