Abstract: This study is a follow-up to previous research conducted in 2000 that examined the prevalence and practices of contract psychologists in North Carolina as well as school-based psychologists. As with the previous study, this study examines demographic information associated with these groups including, prevalence, and reasons for utilization, staff qualifications and hiring guidelines. In addition service expectations for both school-based and contract psychologists are examined. Statistical comparisons are examined between current school based psychologists and contract psychologists to determine the scope of services expected and explore differences. In addition, statistical comparisons between the previous study expectations and this current study are examined for school-based psychologists and contract psychologist as an examination of changes over time. This information is examined against the backdrop of major educational reforms and an extended period of economic hardship which previous research and position statements suggest can affect prevalence and expectations of contract psychologists.
