Abstract: Built of the same Texas limestone used to construct the Alamo, the Daughters of the Republic ofTexas (DRT) Library shares ground with that famous structure. Although the state of Texas ownsthe building and the grounds on which it stands, the DRT owns the contents. The library wasopened in 1945, and the collection focuses on the period in Texas history, 1836–1846, when Texaswas a country unto itself.
