Abstract: After recent cutbacks in funding, many libraries now suffer permanent gaps in their staffing—gaps that have necessarily been filled by temporary staff and volunteers in order to complete essential work. Unfortunately, short-term staffing presents its own issues. But having temporary staff doesn't have to be problematic or frustrating. The Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) will present “Enhancing Your Organization with Short-Term Staff” on Wednesday, February 20 at 1:30-3:00 pm CT.This webinar will show how short-term workers can offer libraries much more than just a solution to being shorthanded. By expanding upon their recently book Short-Term Staff, Long Term Benefits, the presenters will address how library managers can work with a variety of short-term staffing arrangements like internships, grant personnel contracts and volunteers to create an organization that is continuously learning and growing. The webinar will include the description and recruitment of these positions and how to work with present staff members so that all employees can improve their skills. Academic, public and special collections will be addressed, as well as unique arrangements like virtual internships and working with doctoral students.
