Abstract: This portfolio contains materials published during my college years, 1976-1981. It includes news columns and features written while I was a weekly columnist for the Marlboro Herald Advocate, Bennettesville, S.C., and also while I worked as editor of a small paper, The McColl Messenger, McColl, S.C.The features include bow-to pieces, interpretive articles, personality sketches, human interest, and inspirational features. Some were published in magazines. "Not Quite Ready," "Try This," "They That Wait," "Prayer, Practicality and Purpose," and "Only a Sheepherder" appeared in Reach magazine, which is a youth magazine published monthly by the Pentecostal Holiness denomination. "A Little Child Shall Lead Them," was published in Woman's Touch, a women's magazine published every two months by the Assembly of God denomination. "What Happens When Young Girls Pray," appeared in The Challenge, a Pentecostal Holiness publication of the South Carolina Conference published quarterly. "Some Through the Fire," was in The Helping Hand, a women's magazine published monthly by the Pentecostal Holiness denomination. "I Remember How Mama Prayed" and "Our Daily Bread," was published in The Herald of Holiness, a monthly publication of the Nazarene denomination. "The Tranquilizer and the Spirit of Fear," was published by The Advocate, a weekly publication of the Pentecostal Holiness church. "The Three Generation Prayer," was published by Guideposts, a national religious magazine published monthly by Guideposts Inc. out of New York.Since I had published nothing before college, I attribute it all to a good college education, good teachers, and faith in God.
