Abstract: In this paper, the author interrogates the troubling effects of immigration on Diaz’s model of machismo and how both men and women react as victims. Hyper-masculine histories infiltrate everyday life for Latino people in Diaz’s work, and by exploring these interrelated short stories that illustrate the toxic effects of traditional macho identity, the author offers a critique to the macho script that complicates the process of immigration for Latinos in a social and familial platform.
