Abstract: Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' 1987 "Watchmen" compilation has been described as a deconstruction of the superhero genre, complicating the definition of heroism and the sexuality of the hero. In this paper, the author considers the applicability of queer theory to "Watchmen", and examines how, in the stories, the public outcry against masked crime fighting hampers the sexuality of many characters.
