Abstract: In this paper I shall draw a distinction between what I shall call remote and immediate moral obligation. The distinction sheds light on the issues of whether "ought" implies "can" and of whether there can be any genuine moral dilemmas, but it also calls for a qualification in the usual account of what it is for an obligation to be overridden.
