Abstract: Child care for young children has been an important issue for many years, and today more emphasis has been placed on the type of care and the quality of care provided for children than in earlier years. Child care centers must rely on the use of paraprofessionals to serve the ever increasing numbers of children in attendance. The purpose of this research was to analyze the characteristics of paraprofessional child care workers as determined by ratings given on a scale of paraprofessional worker characteristics. The study identified characteristics of paraprofessionals who may be considered more similar to professional workers in child care as compared to those who may be more similar to untrained paraprofessional child care workers.
