Abstract: This article examines some of the major trends in social service contracting and what has been learned about it in the past 15 or 20 years. Enormous strides have been made in understanding alternative approaches to service delivery, as well as in realizing the key role played by the nonprofit sector in service delivery. Yet some perennial questions about the relationship between public and private sectors continue to plague us.
