Abstract: This manuscript is a transcription of a letter written by North Carolina Governor Thomas Bragg on July 30, 1857, as a response to a letter written on July 20, 1857, from Jacob Siler, a state land agent from Macon County, NC. This transcription and its attendant annotations, explanatory material, and bibliography was prepared by students in ENGL 618: Research Methods in English, the required gateway class for the MA in English degree program at Western Carolina University (WCU).
