Abstract: The purpose of this research is to present a problem of inequality in North Carolina’s rural schools, summarize current research about it, and lastly propose how the two researchers for this project addressed the issue. In essence, the problem that this study addressed is that K-12 students in public schools are not receiving the leadership and technology opportunities they need to be successful, and they are not active participants in the education process. The research used a Youth Participatory Action Research methodology to answer the problem throughout the course of a weeklong summer camp. Students were taught leadership and digital literacy skills. A multitude of instructional technologies were used throughout the week, and students created a final digital deliverable to advocate for change within their schools.
