Abstract: Growing up in the African American culture and continuing my education at aHistorically Black University, I have always been exposed to the world of sneakers, especially asan African American male. My research is dedicated to exploring the spending habits andconsumer behaviors of college students at an Historically Black College and University (HBCU),specifically the spending habits of sneaker consumption. In order to better understand sneakerconsumption, I indulged into the history of making sneakers, selling sneakers and what is knowntoday as “sneakerhead culture.” I examined the factors I felt necessary through surveyingmethods in order to gather my data. The factors I examined were student demographics, pricespaid for sneakers, how they value their sneakers, etc. A survey was administered to the studybody at ECSU. Descriptive and inferential statistical methods were used to determine the keyinfluencing factors.
