Abstract: As the usage of artificial intelligence systems is on the rise, so are racist inaccuracies.The algorithms and technology of these systems leave out or discriminate against racialminorities due to a lack of consideration for their physical or cultural circumstances, which leadsto the technology working ineffectively. This thesis looks at various instances of racist biaswithin multiple artificial intelligence systems. It summarizes a sample of the vast information onthis massive fault within technology over the past five years and seeks to explain the socialeffects of this issue and how it perpetuates racial, sexist, and even ageist bias. However, thisthesis does specifically focus on racial bias. This paper seeks to ask the question of how doalgorithms and inputs of search engines perpetuate discriminatory social constructs, and to whatextent. The study conducted within this research paper looks at Google Trends and the relatedtopics and queries in the United States and how they continue to perpetuate racism and prejudice.
