Abstract: Every town in America has some historical story to tell to later generations and Bath, the oldest town in North Carolina, is no exception. Founded in 1705, Bath was both an agricultural center as well as a staging ground for pirates like Blackbeard who were in search of glory and riches. Although later surpassed in prominence by New Bern and Edenton, Bath will always be remembered as the literary inspiration for author Edna Ferber’s novel, Show Boat.
