Abstract: Abstract: Is it possible for faculty at UNC Pembroke who teach the Introduction to Academic Research course to keep the 21st century college student engaged in course material? In my two sections of LIB 1000, it is feasible to keep students participating actively in course content through activities such as the following: LIB 1000 APA Citation Relay, LIB 1000 Jeopardy, several Discussion Boards, textbook chapter reflective essays, and book discovery activities. Also, given the different needs of college students every semester, teaching practices need to evolve to match changing learning habits. In this respect, keeping a teaching journal to record what activities worked or were unsuccessful help the instructor be successful in the long run.This short presentation will answer specifically the following questions:What are specific activities in the Introduction to Academic Research (LIB 1000 course) that help to engage student learning & engagement?What teaching strategies in LIB 1000 should be maintained moving forward into the future?
