Abstract: The United Nations affiliated entity UN Women is a group that works globally to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women. Through the development and implementation of programs and educational resources, UN Women provides services in a wide range of areas to aide in realistic sustainability and development goals for women as well as an active effort to empower women and girls. UN Women aid in many programs for enhancement of different aspects in societies worldwide, such as women’s participation in politics and leadership, as well as economic autonomy and education for prevention; however, focus is given on the efforts to end violence against women as well as the promotion of gender equality that the UN Women have executed in Kenya. Along with a debriefing on the goals and purpose of UN Women, critical thought is given as to how this group functions with nongovernmental organizations (NGO’s) in the Kenyan communities they are active in, as well as criticisms to the organization’s methods. Further, elaboration is given as to how successful UN Women have been in their goals in the past 12 years since the establishment of the new Kenyan Constitution, that was ratified in 2010.
