Abstract: Twenty patients with Research Diagnostlc Criteria diagnoses of either schizo-affectlve disorder or schizophrenia were voluntarily enrolled in the research protocol of the Research Unit at Broughton Hospital. Subjects were administered the Barron-Welsh Revised Art Scale of the Welsh Figure Preference Test in addition to a neuropsychological research battery and the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale in order to explore the relationship of cerebral dominance and creativity as measures of cognitive style in a schizophrenic population. Subjects diagnosed with schizophrenia scored significantly higher on the Barren-Welsh Revised Art Scale than subjects With schizo-affective disorder.
