Abstract: Chronic schizophrenics have consistently been shown to exhibit slower reaction time (RT) than normal individuals when required to respond as rapidly as possible to the presentation or cessation of a stimulus. RT deficit occurs whether stimuli are presented visually or in both visual and auditory modalities. The RT resulting from a subject responding to a known perceptual modality or stimulus has been compared to the RT resulting from a subject responding to an unknown perceptual modality or stimulus.
