Abstract: Subjects were given a pre-test to determine their hypnotic susceptibility and then were randomly distributed to one of two groups, task-motivational instruction group (non-hypnosis) or the hypnosis trance induction group. The hypnosis trance group Ss were hypnotized individually, whereas, the task-motivational Ss were individually read a set of motivational instructions and then each S went through eight test suggestions from the Stanford-Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale. Although the task-motivational instruction Ss scored slightly higher in percentage passed, no significant difference was found between the two groups.
