Abstract: Hepatics were collected from six different study sites throughout the Whitewater River Gorge in the southeastern "embayment" region of the southern Appalachian Mountains. The hepatics were identified and their distribution patterns listed and discussed. Relative occurrences for each species collected were calculated for each study site. Substrate preferences were also noted for each species. The study sites yielded a large number of hepatic species whose distribution patterns varied from local to worldwide.
