Abstract: A study in the development of diplomatic relations between Chile and the United States is one of great significance. Many important events occurred during the early stages of these relations which helped to shape our future policy in this area of the world. General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick, who was the United States minister to Chile from 1866 to 1870, and in 1881, played an important role in helping to develop America's relations with Chile.
