Abstract: Last Spring, I wrote a monologue for a creative writing class about a girl standing in front of a bookcase. She pulled down a book--The Secret of the Old Clock by Carolyn Keene--and proceeded to tell the audience what that book meant to her. From there, The Bookcase was born. For my senior thesis, I wrote a play about the magic of storytelling, the power that stories have to bring people together, and the importance of telling one's own story. I felt that writing a play was a proper culmination of all that I had learned in both my theatre and creative writing degrees. The following pages include a reflection on my process and the goals I set for myself at the beginning and the play itself. Both the reflection and the script are a testament to my growth as a writer and a theatre artist over the course of my thesis project and my college career.
