Abstract: David Morris Potter was born in Georgia in 1910, and died in California in 1971. As an American historian he was, throughout his career, profoundly concerned with and influenced by the history of his native region. Indeed, he has erroneously been considered by some fellow historians as primarily a "Southern historian."
