Abstract: The purpose of the research was to assess the creative abilities of children from rural Appalachia, and to examine the effects on creativity of years in public school, pre-primary educational experience, and sex of the subjects. The 95 subjects were students in kindergarten, first grade, or second grade enrolled in rural public schools in a mountain county in northwestern North Carolina. Subjects were grouped according to grade in public school and according to age.
